Reporting to the Group Manager of Truckload Operations in Morton, IL, this incumbent will oversee Truckload operations in the northern Illinois region as both the head manager onsite and local customer contact. Responsibilities include managing expectations within customer service level agreements (SLA), directing work activities to ensure adherence to operational objectives and KPIs are met, and monitoring quality assurance systems and programs to meet company goals for product and service quality. This Manager will support a team that should be known for exceptional efficiency and timeliness, and he/she will record and analyze customer metrics (e.g. productivity, cost, response time, safety, etc.) using Excel, TMW Truckmate, and other transportation software.
Scope: Fast-paced service provider of both dedicated and non-dedicated dry van truckload operations for core customers across the Midwest region. The position is based in our offices in Montgomery, IL and supervises direct reports in Dispatch operations and over 60 drivers based in Montgomery, Channahon, IL, Aurora, IL, and Rockford, IL. Decisions made by Manager: daily dispatch and customer service, manpower planning and utilization, volume and capacity planning, and minor facility-related decisions. Decisions supported by next level Manager: Capital asset purchases, rate formulation/changes, hiring/termination/salary changes for staff, and major facility-related decisions.
SELECT
Responsibilities:
Fleet Management:Oversee daily transportation operations which include 60
drivers operating locally, OTR, and in jockey service. Oversee daily facility operations, and actively participate in planning and implementation of business processes to continue growth and profitability at or above budgeted levels.
Schedule and conduct staff meetings to communicate operations objectives
Make adjustments during shift to allow for the best response time for the customer
Manage manpower utilization, planning, and implementation
Manage and maintain transportation equipment with the help of maintenance team
Customer Management: Partner with client to ensure operational metrics are met. Communicate and interact daily with customers; escalate major customer issues/requests to Manager.
Financial Management: Analyze and monitor financial responsibilities and P&L for the region. Ensure that Operation works towards the budgeted levels of volume and profitability while operating at the most efficient levels possible.
Cost Control: Operate sensibly and within budget; use resources at hand. Monitor controllable costs; escalate cost, revenue, and rate issues to next level of management.
Staff Management: Select and train staff who embody G&D's core values. Drive accountability for performance through Leadership by Example. Complete administrative duties related to staff management (e.g. performance reviews) with aid of centralized HR group. Maintain positive employee relations and morale through a workplace that is fair, open, honest and objective.
Reporting: Monitor, document, and maintain relevant operational metrics using Excel.
Safety: Encourage, monitor, and maintain a safe work environment.
Continuous Improvement: Initiate and drive continuous improvement efforts.

Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree preferred; equivalent experience / certification required in lieu of degree
Transportation, APICS, Lean, and/or Six Sigma certifications desired
5-10
years of Truckload and Yard Transportation Operations experience
5+ years of experience supervising transportation personnel in an OSHA and FMCSA regulated environment with a heavy emphasis on Safety
Track record of success coordinating Driver and Distribution schedules to meet changing demand
Working knowledge of Transportation / Logistics / Supply Chain Best Practices preferred
Must have a track record of success overseeing an operation of comparable scale/scope
Must have a track record of success solving a variety of operations issues with speed and safety
Experience in a World Class environment serving a demanding customer is preferred
Ability to think proactively and strategically with/for customer to provide best possible service
Data-driven:forecasts spikes and finds trends and potential issues using data and metrics
Excellent customer service skills; ability to communicate clearly orally and in written form
Proficient at writing processes and managing a heavy administrative workload
Experience with transportation software (Truckmate, eLogs, and PeopleNet preferred)
Ability to produce client reports with proficiency in Excel, PowerPoint, and Word is essential
